Using Imagery in Writing – Narrative Writing Prompts for Creative Writing


Help your students master the art of naturally using imagery in writing with these creative and engaging writing prompts! With these no-prep quick writes, your students will get practice incorporating sensory details into their narrative writing in authentic and purposeful ways. These writing prompts take just 5-10 minutes per day and make perfect ELA warm-ups, bell-ringers, or stations!

A quick tip for teachers…

  • Read the prompt, and set the timer for 5-10 minutes.
  • Encourage students to keep their pencils moving the entire time.
  • Don’t be afraid to write alongside them!
  • At the end of the quick write session, invite students to discuss or share their thinking.
