► What winter ELA activities are included?

⭐ Station #1: Snowflake Bentley Informational Text

• Students read a nonfiction text about Wilson Bentley, the original snowflake paparazzi, and complete standards-aligned comprehension questions.

⭐ Station #2: Science of Snowflakes TED Talk

• Students watch a Ted Talk about “The Science of Snowflakes” and learn about snowflake formation. Then, they answer comprehension questions and complete a snowflake word search.

⭐ Station #3: The Amazing Life of a Snowflake Informational Text

• Students read “The Amazing Life of a Snowflake” nonfiction text and complete the paired comprehension questions.

⭐ Station #4: Create a Snowflake + Creative Writing Activity

• Students use a snowflake template to fold and cut their very own snowflakes. Pair it with one of the included writing activities to round it out!

As for differentiation? I’ve included an audio version of the nonfiction winter reading passages so your below-grade-level readers can access the text independently!

Your students will love reading about Snowflake Bentley and the science and history surrounding the study of snowflakes, but they’ll love the paper snowflake craft even more! Display them on your bulletin board throughout the months of January and February, too!
