★ Character Pies – As an alternative to the activity above, students will analyze Mary & Patrick Maloney by creating a traits & behaviors pie chart for both characters.
★ Then vs. Now Comparison – Give students an opportunity to look closely at the story and pull out setting details that showcase life in the 1940s-1950s. Then, have them compare those events to contemporary times.
★ Irony Scavenger Hunt – Students will take a closer look at Roald Dahl’s masterful use of all three types of literary irony in Lamb to the Slaughter by identifying examples of verbal, situational, and dramatic irony in the short story.
★ Wanted Poster – Have students create a WANTED poster for Mary Maloney.
