Imagery and Sensory Language in Poetry Activity and Mini-Lesson

With this mini-lesson, students will learn about how sensory language can evoke strong emotions in readers.
Then, they’ll rotate through five sensory stations (supplies not included) to practice paying attention to and using their five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste.
Afterward, students will apply what they know about analyzing imagery in poetry using one of these three poems:
- The Eagle – Lord Tennyson
- This is Just to Say – William Carlos Williams
- Summer – Walter Dean Myers
